Many Business Brokers ask their potential Business Buyers to complete a confidential customer profile. This is normally a simple, basic questionnaire that summarizes a Buyer’s business interests. It is used as a point of reference by a Business Broker to match a new business listing with potential buyers. It should NOT ask for detailed information on a potential Buyer or their finances. It is NOT the same as a Personal Financial Statement and should NOT ask personal questions such as Social Security numbers, bank account information or employer information. If this type of question is present or if you feel uncomfortable with any of the questions asked, DO NOT answer them. A reputable Business Broker should only request your confidential information out of necessity and should offer a full explanation of  the request. REMEMBER, YOU SHOULD NEVER BE CHARGED A FEE FOR THE RELEASE OF ANY INFORMATION! IF YOU ARE ASKED TO PAY A FEE, QUESTION IT! IT IS NOT A COMMON PRACTICE AMONG REPUTABLE BUSINESS BROKERS!
