When making your first inquiry into a business listed for sale the most common request a Business Broker receives is for the business name or location. Neither of these questions can be answered without a signed Non-disclosure agreement. This can be frustrating for both the business broker and the potential buyer. If your interest in this business is dependent upon its location, the easiest way to discover if it would fit your parameters is to ask its location. This can be done by disclosing your location and asking if the business is located within a distance from you that would be acceptable to you. This could be based on mileage or drive time. If there is a location that you would not be interested in, disclose that in your inquiry. The Business Broker will be happy to tell you if this business falls within your parameters. If it happens to, then you can request an NDA with the knowledge that its location should not be a problem based on distance. If location is not an issue, then you should go ahead and request an NDA as your initial inquiry.
Remember, a business name can never be released without a signed NDA, so you should never request that information in your first inquiry!
